Monson Family Road Trip part 5

San Francisco

We ended up in San Francisco Thursday.  It was a rough road trip to their because we thought Breck decided to get car sick a long the way.  We stopped in a little town with some picnic table to get out our lunches and eat there.  Breck wasn't eating good then all the sudden he threw up.  He then asked for his chips and was good to go.  So we blamed it on the windy roads.  We got to San Francisco and dropped off our stuff at our hotel in Oakland, and headed to see the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman's Wharf.  We didn't quiet know where we were going and didn't really want to drive over the bridge, but that is what ended up happening.  We loved it anyway and were excited to go a crossed it.  The kids loved it.  We parked and got out so we could walk along it, and take some pictures by it.  After that we headed down to the Piers.  We decided to do a title shopping, but realized everyone was hungry and we needed to head to eat.  We ended up waiting forever for our food, Breck was struggling, and we were all getting ornery.  By the time our food arrived Breck wouldn't eat anything, and started to show signs of throwing up.  So I ran with him through the restaurant, but boy howdy we did not make it, and I didn't want all the poor people eating their food to have to see it.  So I turned his little body into me, and let him throw up all over me while I tried to make it to a restroom.  I only had to yell at one waiter to clean up a spot, but over all it was socked through me and brick plus our shoes.  Breck finished up what was left in the bathroom, then I might have lost my dinner as well.  I took off our jackets, and cleaned us off as best as I could, but he wouldn't walk because of all the goodness inside his shoe.  So we ran out of the restaurant took a picture by the fisherman's Wharf sign, and by that time breck and me were both freezing a stinky and wet so we had to cut our trip for the evening short and head back to the hotel for the night.  The next morning we woke up and made a decision to just drive as far as we could that day to get Breck home sooner then planned.  It was the longest ride, day of our lives.  We had throw up in sand pails and on sides of the road, we had the runs in the carseat and cleaned off in rest stops along the way, we had to stop and find medicine.  We made it to Vegas 2 hours from home when I said to stop and lets stay the night and let Breck and ourselves out of the car to air out and get some time to walk around.  We ordered in dinner watched a movie and chilled for the night.  The next morning we Breck seemed to be doing better so we let the kids swim and shop, but by the time we got home that afternoon he had started back up with the throw ups and fever.  It lasted into Saturday night off and on. It was a long one the poor boy.  Either way it left us with more memories from our trip and we enjoyed every minute of it.  Spending some one on one time with your kids, spouse, and family is the best thing EVER!!!

Monson's family Road Trip part 4

The Redwoods

We left Bandon around 10:00, and started down the coast toward the redwoods.  We had heard of a great easy hike for the family that was getting rave reviews so our first stop was the Jedidiah Smith Visitors Center, and our visit to Stout Grove.  We were in HEAVEN.  The weather was great, the scenery beautiful the kids were having a great time climbing and being in nature, and there was a beautiful clear river that felt so good.  We could have stayed there all day.  Along the route we stopped and had a picnic and then headed down to see a few other things and forests along the way.  We of course had to stop and have our picture taken by the massive Paul Bunion and Babe.  The kids got a kick out of them.  We also had to get a picture of driving our car through a tree.  Worth it.  The kids thought this was the coolest thing ever.  We ended the day at Trinidad where we stopped at another Visitor Center to turn in our Junior Ranger books and get our free pin and badge saying we were all Junior Rangers.  We had seen about 2 different light houses already but couldn't get close enough to get a decent picture.  While driving I saw we were coming up on another lighthouse so I made Dean take the exit so we could get a picture by it.  Needless to say it's like half a lighthouse.  We all laughed about it, but still got our picture next to a lighthouse.  Then it was onto our stop for the night before we got up the next day to head to San Fransisco.
