We knew Brecken would need two different sets of braces right from the get go. He had a really bad underbite that never corrected itself, and his team came in every which way and didn't have much room. They first put on an extender. This was in the top of his mouth and we would have to rotate it once a day to tighten it. It was tightened so that his top mouth could get wider. When he bites down they wanted it wider to go over his bottom teeth. After 2 months of that they added braces to the mix. He cant even fully close his mouth because they had to put so much glue on his teeth so his bottom and top teeth wouldn't touch and it would force them to move forward or backwards depending on where they were. He will have the extender on for another 4-6 months. Then braces for 2 years. He will get them off and lose the rest of his baby teeth and then we will have to get them back on again in his teenage years. He's a tough one though and didn't complain at all. The ortho says it's been awhile since he has had to deal with such a bad set of teeth.
