So I got cleared by the doctor last Sunday to leave the MTC. It was awesome, I was so happy. Then we left for the airport at 5:00 in the morning, flew to Panama, and then landed in Paraguay at 11:00 and got to the office at 1:30. The president is super nice and awesome, from what I can understand. Then we slept at the office and had a chill day the next day. They drew my blood and I was really brave and did so well. I called my mom and that was really good. And yeah, mellow day.
The next day we found out our new companions plus area. I was so excited for my new comp, I just knew whoever got me as a companion was going to be the luckiest man in that room. Anyways, my companion is Elder Escobar. He is awesome. He is from Paraguay and speaks perfect English. We are serving in the Ciudad del Este mission. It was an 8 hour bus ride, we are as far away from the office as you can go. and I can see Brazil from my apartment, we are separated by a huge river from Brazil but it is cool to see it and be right there.
We have taught and contacted quite a few people. It is crazy. I see people and their living arrangements and am in awe of how happy they are able to be. They are always smiling. As for the language, we all knew I was screwed but, yeah I am not looking too hot. 3 years of Spanish, 6 weeks of MTC, yeah. I cannot understand or speak much. So I introduce ourselves, say I am from the U.S.A so that they want to talk to us and are in awe of my interesting specimen. And then my comp teaches the whole lesson, I share a scripture and bare my testimony. So I am not doing much.
The food has been good honestly, hoping to have a good bulk season. But yeah, Paraguay is cool, the ankle and language suck but. I am doing okay.
As for weird things. My companion was teaching a lesson and this drunk guy came up to me and kept trying to get me to drink his alcohol and I kept saying NO GRACIAS NO GRACIAS. And he just kept going at it. And then realized I did not understand him and started screaming GOD BLESS AMERICA. Which was weird, I don't even know, weird guy, hope I see him again because it was honestly pretty funny. Next, a guy came running into our church yesterday after church asking if he could sleep there. Our branch president told us to go and teach him the words of god. As my companion was doing so, he kept freaking out and saying he already knew the word of god. I had no idea what was going on but would just smile, shake my head, and say, Si. Turns out this guy had almost just strangled his wife to death and was looking for somewhere to hide. So I guess we picked the wrong topic. We were talking about the restoration but we should have went into repentance. Anyways, my companion just spoke to me in english and said, we need to get out of here. I had no idea , I thought we could maybe baptize this guy and was kind of irritated until he told me about what had happened. I then thanked him for getting us out of there. and we told the Branch president to go talk to him and tell him he could not sleep there. It was funny. Anyways, that's all I have for this week. Crazy to think we are already in September. Hope you all are doing okay
From everyone's favorite,
Elder Monson
PS. I am typing on a Spanish keyboard and cannot figure out apostrophes and quotation marks, so bare with me for now, love you guys, Till next Monday where we will talk about some amazing things!
And I forgot my spiritual thought. I was having a rough day. And just was really down. And a lady called, asking for a blessing, she had just had a stroke. I got to anoint the oil, and the spirit flooded me. I realized throughout the blessing like. I am not out here for my personal enjoyment, I need to stop being selfish, because people like this need me. It was humbling. And I have since looked at my mission differently and been enjoying it a lot more. The other one was, I was talking to myself in my head while walking on one of the first days. And kind of asking like. Why is Preston Monson here? I do not know Spanish, I can't walk, like what is going on. Why can I not be at home, with my family, my girlfriend, my friends. And I got an overwhelming voice that said :I have something to teach you first. Anyways, besides that first day or two, my attitude has been amazing, I am doing really well and hope to bring this light to more people. Amen
Goodbye, for reals.
