While Stephanie and I were doing my garage floors my dad and mom were at my house that evening to look at them. Dad received a call while we were working on them and it was my sister Amy's fiance nathan He was calling to let us know he had taken Amy to the emergency room. She was sick and hasn't eaten or drank in a couple weeks and was not coherent. My mom and dad then received a call in the middle of the night from a Dr and he told them her cancer had metastasized and she was terminal. They had found 2 tumors in her head cancer in her bones, liver, and kidneys. She isn't eating or drinking and it didn't look good. Dad and Mom got a flight to Georgia to go be with Amy and my brother Justin was working there that week so he was there with them. My mom said she didn't even recognize Amy when they went in her room. She hadn't taken care of herself in so long. Her hair was a big rats nest, and she hasn't showered in months or brushed her teeth. They were able to wheel her in to the shower and at least wash her body and hair. My mom worked on her hair for hours and didn't make hardly any progress. The first day she would wake up and seemed to recognize everyone but wasn't making complete sense. The next day they thought she had a seizure and so she was really crazy and not speaking well and agitated. After consulting with the Dr.'s and Nate they concluded to bring her home. They got a flight and brought her home which was the hardest thing they've had to do in awhile. They got her home and had a rough night. The next day hospice came and we started that journey. They gave her a couple weeks at the most and it was a hard thing for all of us. Lots of crying and heartache, mixed with so many other emotions. We all came to grandma's every day the first couple of week and just kind of felt we all wanted to be there. Lisa and I tried to tackle her hair without much success. We were able to save the top but I eventually had to shave the bottom. Which she was not happy about. It looked so much better. Steph and Mom gave her baths shaved her and got her ready each day and emptied her catheter and changed her diapers. Amy in the last 2 weeks started eating and getting an appetite back as well as leg strength so she could get herself to the bathroom. We are going on the month mark and know her cancer is terminal and will take her but we have nursed her back to health the best we could and she is doing okay. She still gets irritated very easily, and anxious a lot. She hallucinates and still says confusing things but she is doing so much better since when we got her. So even though we don't know how long we got and she will stay on hospice to manage her pain and other things she is home and we see her every day. We love her and are thankful for the time we have with her.
