CHAPTER 15: Gateway YSA/ Downtown Edmonton

- Sister Monson
WEATHER: I dont even want to talk about it.
(Feel free to send me sweaters and anything warm because its just gonna get worse from here)
NEW TRIO UNLOCKED???
Transfers happened on Wednesday and im officially in a trio! Me and Sister Clark are training Sister Dent! This new trio is alot different than my old trio haha but im excited to see how the transfer goes! Im just living the trio life out here in Canada!
YSA
I think i underestimated the culture shock i would experience being in a YSA ward on a college campus. We have so much finding time every day and we basically walk campus and talk to people. Im not going to lie when I say its a bit uncomfortable just going up to people my own age and talking to them. Im good at going up to girls but with the guys its a bit weirder haha. Being on campus reminds me of when I was in college and its just so weird to think that just a year ago I was at BYU! (Shoutout to APT: #95) Also shoutout to BYU for beating the Utes
OTHER THINGS:
○ Walking Whyte Ave at night is scary and ive never seen so many homeless people
○ We got a spell casted on us
○ Already hid from a guy we met
○ Already blocked 3 people (I guess this is YSA life as a sister)
○ Haven't got fed a member meal #missmyglenallanbesties
○ Ate Chick-Fil-A for the first time in 4 months
○ Got free dirty sodas
○ Said goodbye to all of my old people BFF's
○ Put a guy on date the first time we met him
SPIRITUAL THOUGHT:
Usually I dont talk about all of our friends in my emails because honestly there's so many people we teach as missionaries and some weeks you gain some friends and some weeks you loose some but I want to share about our two friends Alex and Rosy. (I just said goodbye to them in Glen Allan)
I remember it was my second week in the mission field and i got asked to speak in church on sunday. I remember saying a prayer that morning praying that at least one of our friends would go to church so they can hear mine and my companions talks and feel of the spirit. (Our area was pretty dead at the time) As we took our seats in church life was not looking very promising. Right before the service was about to start a boy on crutches and a girl (obviously a couple) walked in. Being new, I looked to my companion wondering if maybe I just hadn't met them yet but I could tell by the excitement on my companions face that she didnt have a clue who they were. The service continued and right after the closing prayer me and my comps jumped up so we could corner these people and find out who they were before they left.
That's kinda how we started meeting with Alex and Rosy.
Rosy isnt a member and had never been to church before. Alex is an inactive member. He served his mission in Mexico but hadn't been to church in 20 years. Alex found that he had a tumor in his knee and had to get knee surgery. This injury allowed his very busy schedule to slow down and that's why he came to church that Sunday. We have been teaching them both these last 12 weeks. Weve been working on getting alex back and rosy to enter the waters of baptism. I said goodbye to them this week and they made me and my comps Mexican food, gave us gifts, and we sung i am a child of god in spanish. Alex started playing the church hymn "till we meet again". We had a cute testimony meeting and i wanted to share something Alex said:
" Cherish your mission. A mission is a mtc training center for life. It prepares you for all of lifes challenges." I loved this thought! For me serving a mission has had its ups and downs! But I know that i will be eternally blessed for sacrificing this time to help the lord's children. I know that the lessons im learning now and the spirit im feeling will carry with me throughout my whole life!
I love and miss you all! Email me!!!
