Locked in or Locked out?
| CHAPTER 23: Gateway YSA/ Downtown Edmonton |
WEATHER:
-27°F
-27°F
SIDE NOTE: Nostrils freezing is a real thing and its not fun
LOCKED OUT:
Me and Sister Ashby got locked out of our house this week. It was -27 °F outside. We had to walk Whyte Ave (which sisters arent supposed to do alone especially at night- but all is well only a few weird encounters. The bad part was we werent dressed for the cold because we were planning on only driving to a lesson... so we were freezing. Good thing we had coats!!! Our lesson didnt end up happening but all was well and it was a good experience!
ZONE CONFERENCE:
We had zone conference this week on Thursday and it was awesome! We had café Rio salads (make your own) and dirty sodas (make your own) which was amazing because canada has neither! If anyone is coming to Canada anytime soon I would love a Cafe Rio salad brought up for me as well:) Since it was our Christmas zone conference half of our mission was there! The other half met on a different day but it was a huge group so it was really fun to see everyone! They wanted to do something fun for Christmas so we got to play dodgeball for a bit. Basically I do not like dodgeball but somehow I made it to final round so that was fire I guess

SPIRITUAL THOUGHT:
(This is the Christmas message we've been sharing with our friends and members! Its by David Butler)
i can’t remember when i found out the truth
.
that everyone was lying about christmas
.
the true story that wasn’t so true
.
i’m talking about the wisemen
.
who apparently didn’t show up until two years after Jesus was born
.
two years!
.
at least that’s what the smart bible people say
.
they weren’t there the night in the stable
.
they didn’t come and park their camels right outside and kneel down in the straw with their frankincense
.
they followed the star
.
and it took years
.
yet on every shelf in my house
.
in wood, plastic, and glass
.
and in every christmas eve reading of luke 2
.
and in every church program
.
they be tricking
.
cause right after the shepherds come with neckties around their foreheads, the other kids walk in right after wearing bathrobes holding gifts
.
same night
.
and in every nativity scene you set them up right next to the donkey
.
same scene
.
as if they were there
.
and tonight as i sat looking at my shelf full of wisemen with shepherds
.
i decided i liked this version of the story better
.
it shows an aspect of His heart you wouldn’t see if they weren’t there in the same scene
.
cause that’s who Jesus is
.
someone who brings everyone
.
all together
.
close by and far away
.
familiar and foreigner
.
those who keep company with angels
.
and those who only have a glimmer of belief high in the sky
.
He sees them all the same
.
and they are welcome all the same
.
and that “first night” He made sure we all knew loud and clear that everyone had a place
.
outsiders and insiders alike
.
no room in the inn
.
but plenty in the stable
.
pack them in He said
.
even that donkey
.
and even if it takes you a little longer to get there
.
two years even
.
or more
.
you still have a place right next to the baby
.
as if you were there the night it happened
.
yep, it took me a while to learn the truth about christmas
.
but so very happy i did
I invite you all to be a Wiseman this christmas and find ways to seek jesus christ more in your life

Love and miss you all
