CHAPTER 49: Fort St. John (BC Canada)
WEATHER: (constant 60s with rain)
Whats up everyone! Ive drafted this email for a couple weeks now but havent had it in me to actually finish it haha so today's going to be the day! Its been a second so Ill try to recap what's happened recently!
JACK GOT BAPTIZED:
Jack was able to get baptized last weekend. Jacks baptism was beautiful and he bore an amazing testimony at the end. After his baptism Jack told us he felt as though he could finally breath again. Jack was one of the most prepared people ive ever met and it was so fun to teach him. Jacks baptism was super special. Our trio met Jack 3 weeks into our first transfer and got to teach him all the way till his baptism! We are planning a temple trip with him in Edmonton when we travel down for transfers!
For Jacks baptismal interview he was interviewed by our mission president. After the mission interview our president texted and told us that we were able to move forward with Jacks baptism. A day later president texted us again and said he felt really strongly to go back over prayer with Jack first thing after his baptism. (For a bit of context, we've been trying to get Jack to pray in front of us since 1972 but he sajd he never felt comfortbale. We had him pray silently with us in the room but he would never do it out loud) So Jack gets baptized! And than we meet with him a couple days later. He opens up to us about prayer and said that hes not sure hes ever said a real prayer before but hes christan and was embarrassed by it. So we taught him how to pray and knelt down and said one of his first prayers with him. The spirit was very strong and it Jack said it was just what he needed. We promised him if he prayed continuelly he would see more of God's hand in his life. The next moening he texted us and told us he prayed and on his way to work when he stopped to get breakfast someone bought his breakfast. So many tender mercies and miracles! 
REDGE:
We were able to put our friend Redge on date for baptism last week. Our mission is on a huge push to get 50 souls baptized this month and we werent sure how here in FSJ we were going to contribute to that goal. We prayed (lots of prayers) and decided to make a miracle plan for our friend Redge. We made a list of lessons we wanted to teach and in what order, when we wanted to have them, and when we were going to ask him to get baptized.
We started to carry out the plan with Redge and were able to put him on date for the end of this month! We arent sure what's going to happen with transfers but its still amazing that he will be entering into the waters of baptism!
HIGHLIGHTS:
♡ YSA activity with DC and I finally got to see other missionaries
♡ Went to my first Filipino Boodle fight
♡ Had a candlelight dinner with Jerry
♡ Was written two poems this week
♡ Tried non-alcoholic beer and man that stuffs nasty
♡ Did some gardening again

♡ Slept on the couch for 4 nights straight
♡ Got extremely sick
♡ Hit 11 months
♡ Interviews with prez (my least favorite thing)

♡ Went golfing (it was pretty bad) but we can pretend i shot even
♡ Had Sister Days last mentor session (another trainee almost done )
♡ Had 5 college boys pull up to church and our ward was very concerned
♡ Still mostly wearing sweaters here
♡ Our sim broke
SPIRITUAL THOUGHT:
Okay so for a little context my area she be super small. Im talking barley a ward. (They made it a ward a couple years ago but since than their numbers have dropped alot so its small) So when we eat with people for dinner we've been trying to get really created with our messages so we dont share the same thing every time Usually were eating with the same people once or twice a week. So I've been gathering my creative juices and I write up these spiritual thoughts and than we play a game to go with them. So here's the one I wrote this week.
Would You Rather?
Its a game im sure we've all played
Stuck in the car on a long car ride, anything to kill the boredom
Or at recess when you were 10 years old, sitting cross-legged in a circle:
“Would you rather have a crush on Josh or Caleb?”
“Would you rather.”
three little words.
But they force you to choose.
Usually it’s dumb stuff.
Would you rather sweat honey or sneeze glitter?
Would you rather live at the ocean or at the beach?
Would you rather eat pizza or tacos for the rest of your life?
Silly
Hypothetical
No real stakes
Until the other day
I was asked a would you rather question
And it wasnt silly anymore
Nor was it hypothetical
And boy did it have stakes
He asked it quick
Almost with desperation to get me to participate
Would you really rather leave, than just stay for a bit and fit in?
I knew what he was really asking
Would i rather keep my standards than participate in the activity taking place
Would i really rather be an outcast than give in for just this one night
Would i really rather have everyone look at me and judge me as i leave the room than just stay for a bit longer
Would i really want to do that?
Would i really?
I often reflect on that moment
And if you think about it
Every moment and every day is a string of would you rather questions
Would i rather get up or sleep in
Make breakfast or skip it
Go on a run or scroll on my phone
Its a never ending list of things to choose
Small choices
Big choices
Choices without witnessess
And choices with a whole room watching
Ive come to believe that every would you rather question is really asking us "who will you follow"
Peter had a would you rather moment
He had two choices that night
Deny christ 3 times and fit in with the crowd around the fire
Or stand alone and leave
He chose warm
He chose the crowd
3 denials
3 chances to stay
But after that
Christ gives him another would you rather on the shore
No crowd
Just forgivness
"Lovest thou me"
The response came 3 times
"Thou knowest i love thee"
And than came HIS response
Than Feed my sheep"
So maybe the question isnt would you rather leave or fit in?
Maybe the real question is who are you fitting in with?
We learn from peter that the crowds fire goes out fast
But the one christ made on the shore
That one lasts forever
That one never looses light
And that one will always be waiting for you when you leave and want to come back
Would you rather?
What a silly game
But next time you play
Remember his name
I have such a strong testimony of would you rathers in my life! Choosing the would you rather that brings you closer to Jesus Christ is not always easy but it always leads down an easier road!
We've been extending the invitation to our ward members to pick a would you rather this week that brings you closer to Jesus Christ! I would just extend that same invitation to all of you as well!
